Yamakita Railway Park (山北鉄道公園)
Flow of the course
About this spot
This park sits right next to Yamakita Station on the JR Gotemba Line and preserves the D52 70, known as Japan's most powerful steam locomotive. Fitting for Yamakita, a town that once thrived as a railway hub, the sheer size of the locomotive up close overwhelms adults and children alike. On some days, it is even run using compressed air for maintenance demonstrations.
Tips
Admission is free. The D52 is only operated for maintenance on limited days, so if you want to see it move, check Yamakita Town's information in advance.
