About this spot
This lakeside park spreads across a hilltop in Midori Ward, Sagamihara City, on the north shore of Lake Miyagase. The best time for autumn leaves is usually from late October to late November. The enkianthus shrubs covering the hillside turn a brilliant red, and from the lakeside garden you can take in the Niji-no-Ohashi (Rainbow Bridge) over Lake Miyagase along with the autumn colors, all at once. Well-maintained promenades make it easy to stroll even with young children. Another appeal is that you can combine your visit with the neighboring Toriihara Fureai-no-Yakata (open 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., closed Tuesdays).
Season & hours
Name: 鳥居原湖畔公園
Date & time: Typically late October–late November(ドウダンツツジ)
Venue: 相模原市緑区・鳥居原湖畔公園
Tips
There is a parking lot. The lakeshore gets cold as the sun goes down, so it's reassuring to bring an extra layer. Since the enkianthus foliage timing varies from year to year, check Kanagawa Prefecture's or local autumn-leaf information before you go.
Best time to visit
Afternoon, when the light makes the lake and autumn leaves glow
