About this spot
A walk-around illumination event that turns the entire waterfront of central Yokohama into a stage of light. The previous year (2025), it ran from December 4 to December 30, from 17:00 to 21:05, with many locations taking part, including Shinko Central Plaza, Osanbashi Pier (大さん橋), and Yamashita Park (山下公園). Every hour at :29 and :59, a five-minute spectacle called 'Highlight of Yokohama' (ハイライト・オブ・ヨコハマ) lit up the waterfront, historic buildings, and skyline in sync with music. Admission is free. The schedule and lighting hours for the 2026-27 season have not yet been announced, so please check the official website before you go.

Tips
The hour right after lighting begins, around 17:00, is an easy time for families to move around. The show starts at :29 and :59 each hour (based on the previous year), so it's best to time your arrival and stand somewhere with a sea view. On days with strong sea winds it gets quite cold, so dress warmly.
Best time to visit
Early evening, right after the lights come on. The time when the sky still holds a tinge of blue offers the most beautiful contrast with the city lights.
