About this spot
A stargazing event held 16 times a year by the Science Club at Kanagawa Prefectural Youth Center in Momijigaoka, Nishi Ward, Yokohama. It is mainly held on Saturday evenings (with some on Friday, Sunday, and Wednesday), with start times set between 17:30 and 19:00 depending on the session, ending between 19:00 and 20:30. Participation is free. You can view the moon and planets through a telescope while listening to explanations from expert staff, and the appeal is that even under city skies, the moon's craters and the planets can be clearly seen. Within walking distance of Sakuragicho Station, it is a perfect class for a child's first stargazing experience.

Tips
Be sure to check the official website in advance for the dates held, each session's start time, and how to apply. What can be observed may vary with the weather. Some areas of Momijigaoka get dark underfoot at night, so a small light will help make the walk back reassuring. On clear moonlit nights, viewing the moon's surface through the telescope is especially spectacular.
Best time to visit
From the start time after sunset. The darker the sky gets, the better the stars can be seen
