About this spot

A museum in Kowakidani (小涌谷), open 9:00-17:00 (last admission 16:30), closed December 31, January 1, and during exhibition changeover periods. Admission is 2,800 yen for general visitors and university students, and 1,800 yen for elementary, junior high, and high school students. The garden on the grounds, normally 300 yen, is currently open free of charge due to the closure of the stream-side walking course. Paths wind along the mountain slope, letting you walk quietly among the seasonal trees. And the signature feature is the foot bath in front of the building. It's free for museum visitors (500 yen for foot bath use only), letting you warm and rest your feet after walking through the garden and museum. With art appreciation, a garden stroll, and even a foot bath all in one place, it's a spot for a truly Hakone-style afternoon.

Tips

Last admission is at 16:30. Don't forget a towel for the foot bath. The garden is currently open free of charge, but the stream-side walking course is closed, so please follow the path signage as you walk.
