About this spot

An old temple on the slope of Mount Sekiro (石老山), said to have been founded in the Heian period. It is about a 35-minute walk from the Sekirosan-iriguchi (石老山入口) bus stop, up an approach dotted with huge boulders, and rock caves and other sights continue along the way. The grounds, surrounded by towering cedar trees, are quiet and make a perfect rest stop partway through the hike.

Tips

The approach up to here also continues over stone steps and rocky paths, so wear hiking boots from the start. It's reassuring to drink plenty of water at the temple grounds before heading for the summit.
