Mount Jinba (陣馬山)

Flow of the course

About this spot

An 855-meter mountain rising in Sagamihara City's Midori Ward (相模原市緑区), well loved as a hiking course that can be enjoyed year-round. Much of the trail is shaded by forest, and you can feel the air grow cooler and clearer as you climb. The summit is an open grassy area symbolized by a statue of a white horse, with a sweeping view stretching to Mount Fuji (富士山), the Tanzawa mountain range (丹沢山地), and the Kanto Plain (関東平野), while the wind sweeping across the ridge quickly cools your sweat. Being at a higher elevation, it's cooler than the lowlands, so you can walk comfortably even in September and October, when the heat continues. Parking and restrooms are available around the trailhead.

Tips

It's precisely during the hottest part of the afternoon that the shaded trail and the cool summit breeze feel best. Families with children should choose a manageable route and allow enough time to be sure of descending while it's still light.
