About this spot

An old folk house preserved in the village of Kamiogino (上荻野), Atsugi City, free to enter. Under its large roof, an earthen-floor area and tatami rooms continue one after another, letting you see the traditional house's construction up close. Sitting on the veranda and gazing at the garden's trees, you'll feel as though time has slowed down. Open 10:00-17:00 from April to September (last entry 16:30) and 10:00-15:00 from October to March (last entry 14:30). Exploring with your kids while asking, 'What clever ideas did old houses use?' leads to many discoveries.

Tips

Closed Mondays and Tuesdays (the following weekday if a holiday) and over the New Year holidays. There is a parking lot. In autumn and winter it closes early at 15:00, so plan your afternoon accordingly.
