About this spot
This park on Sakurayama (桜山) in Zushi (逗子) is linked to the Meiji-era literary master Tokutomi Roka (徳富蘆花). Roka lived in Zushi for four years starting in Meiji 30 (1897) and wrote his masterpiece 'Hototogisu' (不如帰) here. The park is open year-round and free to enter; the walking path winds up the mountainside, offering views of Zushi Beach (逗子海岸) and Sagami Bay (相模湾), and Mt. Fuji on clear days. Inside the park is a Local History Museum where you can learn about Zushi's history and literary connections. The quiet of the tree-covered hill, in contrast to the lively beach, makes for a calm, gentle afternoon.
