Hill with a Harbor View

Flow of the course

About this spot

A prefectural hilltop park known for Anjinzuka (按針塚), the memorial mound for Miura Anjin (William Adams) (三浦按針), the English navigator who served Tokugawa Ieyasu. From the Hill with a Harbor View inside the park, you can take in the whole of Yokosuka Harbor (横須賀港) and Nagaura Harbor (長浦港), and after sunset it becomes a night-view spot where the harbor lights and the lights of moored naval vessels spread out below. In spring it is also cherished as one of the prefecture's leading cherry blossom spots, making this Yokosuka hilltop a place worth visiting in every season. There are restrooms inside the park.

Tips

Since there is a continuous uphill slope from the area around Keikyu Anjinzuka Station (京急安針塚駅), the rule of thumb is to finish the climb while it is still light, before sunset. The hillside park has few streetlights and gets dark at night, so be sure to bring a flashlight, watch your footing on the way down, and hold your children's hands. It gets cold up on the hill, so don't forget warm clothing either.

Best time to visit

Around sunset. The highlight is the transition from the evening view to the moment lights come on across the harbor
