About this spot
This observatory sits atop Mt. Gongen (権現山) in Kobo-yama Park (弘法山公園). During the day, you can see all the way to the Tanzawa mountain range and Sagami Bay, and once the sun sets, the city lights of the Hadano Basin spread out below. The park has a parking lot and restrooms, and the recommended flow is to climb the mountain path while it's still light and reach the summit in time for sunset. The very transition from twilight to night view is the biggest reward of this course.
Season & hours
Name: 弘法山公園 権現山展望台
Venue: 秦野市曽屋・南矢名・弘法山公園 権現山山頂
Tips
The path to the observatory includes unpaved mountain trail and stairs. It gets dark on the way back, so be sure to bring a headlamp or flashlight, and descend slowly together as a family. It's colder at the top of the mountain than in the city, so bring an extra layer.
Best time to visit
Arrive at the summit 30 minutes before sunset. The transition from twilight to night view is spectacular
