Riding the Tsugaru Railway to Tachineputa and Dazai's Hometown of Kanagi
Starting at the Tachineputa no Yakata, where you look up at a giant float about 23 meters tall, ride from the retro Tsugaru-Goshogawara Station on the Tsugaru Railway, the northernmost privately owned railway on Honshu, to Kanagi, hometown of Dazai Osamu. Tour the Meiji-era mansion at Shayokan, Dazai's birthplace, then listen closely to a live performance at the Tsugaru Shamisen Hall that resonates in your chest, before finishing with a leisurely stroll through lakeside Ashino Park, where the railway tracks run right through the grounds. With the Tsugaru Plain and Mount Iwaki unfolding outside the window and the very experience of rattling along in the diesel railcar being a treat in itself, this is a Tsugaru course perfect for a three-generation family of railway fans.
