Nagasaki: Spectacles Bridge and Temple Town Street Cobblestone Retro Walk
A retro walking course from Nagasaki's Nakashima River through the hills of Kaze-no-Atama, following cobblestones and stone steps. Begin in the morning at the Spectacles Bridge (眼鏡橋), where the reflection in the water forms an eyeglass shape, then enjoy hunting for hidden heart stones in the embankment. Pass through Temple Town Street to visit Sofuku Temple (崇福寺), where the vermillion-lacquered Dragon Palace Gate welcomes you to admire the National Treasure gate and main hall. For lunch, enjoy the signature "Goichininmae" set of fluffy chawanmushi and steamed sushi at Yoshisou Honten (吉宗本店), a 150-year-old establishment. In the afternoon, climb the stone steps of Dragon Horse Street (龍馬通り) to the Kameyama Shachu Memorial Hall (亀山社中記念館), reflecting on the late Edo period when Sakamoto Ryoma and his companions drove history forward. End at the Kaze-no-Atama Park observation plaza, where you can stand beside Ryoma's statue and gaze out over Nagasaki Harbor and the hillside town. A day immersed in the essence of Nagasaki, where history emerges at every step.
