2026 JGSDF Zentsuji Camp Fireworks Festival: A Full-Day Course
This full-day course lets you enjoy Zentsuji City — known as the birthplace of Kobo Daishi Kukai — from midday onward, centered on the JGSDF Zentsuji Camp Fireworks Festival (陸上自衛隊善通寺駐屯地花火大会) held from 20:30 on Sunday, July 26, 2026. At midday, visit Sotohonzan Zentsuji (総本山善通寺), the 75th temple of the Shikoku pilgrimage and Kukai's birthplace, and explore its vast grounds with a towering five-story pagoda. Next, visit the former Zentsuji Kaikosha (旧善通寺偕行社) to experience Meiji-era Western-style architecture and the history of Zentsuji as it once flourished as a military town. In the afternoon, enjoy food stalls and shopping in the street in front of the station. In the evening, pick up dinner near the camp while securing a spot, and wait for sunset. From 20:30 to 21:00, about 1,000 fireworks light up the night sky above the camp. This is the definitive Zentsuji plan, letting you fully enjoy both a stroll through the temple town linked to Kukai and fireworks unique to the JGSDF summer festival.
