2026 Sendai Tanabata Festival Full-Day Experience Course
A full-day course centered on the first day of Sendai Tanabata Festival, one of the three major festivals of Northeast Japan (August 6-8, 2026, around the shopping arcade streets in central Sendai). In the morning, enjoy the equestrian statue of Date Masamune and views of the castle town at Sendai Castle Ruins, which is closely associated with Date Masamune. Next, experience the magnificent mausoleum architecture at Zuihouden. At Osaki Hachimangu Shrine, a national treasure, offer prayers surrounded by the quiet atmosphere of the sacred grove. Enjoy the shade of zelkova trees along Jozenjidori Street and satisfy your summer craving for cool shade. In the evening, have an early dinner at Ichiban-cho shopping arcade, then at 5 PM head to the city center arcade. Thousands of enormous tanabata decorations adorned with colorful streamers will fill the space overhead, creating a scene that symbolizes Sendai's summer. A perfect course for families to experience both historical exploration and the gorgeous tanabata festival in a single day.
