2026 Hakodate Park Central Fountain (函館公園 中央噴水): Full-Day Course

This is a free full-day course built around the Hakodate Park Central Fountain water play area (函館公園 中央噴水) in Hakodate City. In 2026 it becomes available from Wednesday, July 1, as soon as preparations are complete (the closing date has not been announced). With a gently sloping main fountain that has no fence and several smaller fountains around it, the design lets you step naturally into the water, so even small children can start playing at their own pace. Inside the park there is also Children's Land, home to what is said to be Japan's oldest Ferris wheel, along with restrooms, so a whole day here never gets dull. In the morning, head to the Hakodate Morning Market (函館朝市). Walk past shopfronts lined with squid and crab and take an early lunch of seafood. Then climb the slopes of Motomachi to the Former Hakodate Public Hall. The vivid blue-and-green Western-style building is a symbol of the history of the port town of Hakodate, and the view from the balcony is superb. In the afternoon, move to Hakodate Park to play at Children's Land, then finish with the Central Fountain water play area, sending up spray until evening. Everything is within reach on foot and by streetcar, making this a course that packs the character of Hakodate into a single day.
