2026: Miyagi Matsushima Rikyu Water Play Zone - A Full Day Course
A one-day course starring the Miyagi Matsushima Rikyu (宮城県松島離宮) water play zone (wading pool and splash plaza), open from Saturday, July 18 through Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 10:00 to 17:00. In a spot overlooking Matsushima, one of the Three Views of Japan, you can play in the water using the wading pool and splash plaza for young children and the surprise fountain mats. There is also an athletic playground and a pinwheel garden, so play never stops even when the children tire of the water. During the Summer Festival period, admission is free and the normally 400-yen paid area is opened free of charge as well, which makes spending a whole day here at low cost a major attraction. Located right by Matsushimakaigan Station (松島海岸駅), it is easy to plan for by train or by car, and the trip home is easy even carrying wet luggage. In the morning, visit Zuiganji Temple (瑞巌寺), associated with Date Masamune, and take in the view of Matsushima Bay from Godaido Hall (五大堂) jutting out over the sea. Lunch offers seafood at Matsushima Fish Market, so sightseeing and water play fit into a single day. In the afternoon, play to your heart's content at the Miyagi Matsushima Rikyu water play zone and stay until evening, when the sunlight softens.
Schedule
Walk the main hall built by Date Masamune and the cedar-lined approach
