2026 Iwakuni City Tateishi Pool: A Full-Day Course
This is a full-day course centered on Iwakuni City Tateishi Pool (岩国市営立石プール) in Iwakuni City. In 2026 it is open from Tuesday, July 21 through Sunday, August 30, closed every Monday as well as August 13-15 during the Obon holiday. It has both a 25m general pool with a water depth of 1m10cm to 1m40cm and a children's pool with a depth of 50cm, so older kids who want to swim and little ones who want to get used to the water can each enjoy it in their own way. In the morning, start at Kintai Bridge (錦帯橋), ranked as one of Japan's three great bridges. The sight of its five wooden arches spanning the Nishiki River is far more impressive in person than in photos. Next, head from Kikko Park (吉香公園) on the far bank to Iwakuni Castle (岩国城). Ride the ropeway to the summit and you can look out over the Nishiki River, the townscape of Iwakuni, and the Seto Inland Sea in the distance. Past noon, move on to Iwakuni City Tateishi Pool and play in the water until evening. Take in the famous bridge and castle-town scenery in the morning, then spend the afternoon in the water - a day that captures the essence of Iwakuni.
