2026 Iwakuni City Asahi Pool: A Full-Day Course
This is a full-day course centered on Iwakuni City Asahi Pool (岩国市営旭プール) in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. In 2026 it is open from Tuesday, July 21 through Sunday, August 30, closed every Monday and during the Obon holiday (August 13-15). It has both a 25m general pool with a depth of 90cm to 1m20cm and a children's pool with a depth of 50cm, so kids who want to swim and little ones who want to get used to the water can both play safely at a depth suited to them. In the morning, start at Kintai Bridge (錦帯橋), ranked as one of Japan's three great bridges. The sight of its five arches spanning the Nishiki River is far more impressive in person than in photos. After crossing the bridge, ride the ropeway up to the summit and enjoy the view stretching to the Seto Inland Sea from Iwakuni Castle (岩国城) with its white keep. Past noon, move on to Iwakuni City Asahi Pool and play in the water until evening. A summer outing that ties together a famous bridge, a mountain castle, and a pool in a single day - quintessentially Iwakuni.
