About this spot
A gondola journey of approximately 8 minutes from Soun'zan Station to Owakudani. The moment you crest the ridge, Owakudani's volcanic landscape with its plumes of smoke unfolds dramatically below—one of Hakone's most breathtaking sights. On clear days, you can see Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi (芦ノ湖), and the whole family will have their faces pressed to the windows.
Tips
The smoking volcanic area comes into view directly ahead and below as you approach Owakudani. Gondolas arrive at approximately one-minute intervals, so even with a stroller, you can board without rushing.
Best time to visit
Approximately 8 minutes travel; mornings have clearer air and better views of Mount Fuji
