About this spot
The Hakone Tozan Cable Car connects Gora Station and Sounzan Station in about 10 minutes. Climbing a steep slope with about 200 meters of elevation gain from a stair-stepped cabin feels just like an amusement park ride. Looking back, the townscape of Gora and Hakone's outer crater rim spread out below, a supporting-role stretch that builds anticipation for the ropeway to come.
Tips
From the lowest car (on the Gora side), you get an exhilarating view looking back down the track and townscape you just climbed. Strollers can be brought on board as they are, but folding them is safer when it's crowded.
Best time to visit
About 10 minutes on board; downhill-bound cars are less crowded and move smoothly in the morning.
