About this spot

One of Japan's three great morning markets alongside Wajima and Hida Takayama, continuing for over 400 years since the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Local seafood, vegetables, and dried fish stalls line the cobblestone streets, and conversations with vendors are a highlight of the journey. With plenty of freshly fried satsuma-age (fish cake) and bracken mochi to sample, it's the perfect start to a gourmet adventure.

Tips

Closed on Wednesdays. The location of the market changes between the first and second half of the month, so check local information. Bring coins and a cooling bag for shopping.

Allow 60-75 minutes. The market operates only in the morning, with peak activity around 9 a.m.
