White Lighthouse on the Cape: Panoramic Views of Tokyo Bay and Mt. Fuji
About this spot
A white lighthouse standing guard at the entrance to Tokyo Bay at the western tip of the Boso Peninsula (房総半島). This historic structure from the Taisho era is registered as a tangible cultural property of Japan. From the elevated location, a grand panorama unfolds where Tokyo Bay and the Pacific Ocean become one. On clear days, Mt. Fuji comes into view directly ahead. It is an ideal scenic cape to include as a stop on your scenic drive date.
Tips
There is a steep staircase of a few minutes' climb down to the lighthouse base. Parking spaces around the area are limited, so using a private parking lot is recommended. The cape is windy, so bringing a light jacket is advisable.
Best time to visit
Allow about 40 minutes. Late afternoon light offers the best views.
