Visit the ancient temple and enjoy lunch at the famous Jindaiji soba noodles at the temple gate

About this spot

One of Tokyo's most venerable ancient temples, said to have been founded in the Nara period. Notable features include the thatched-roof gate and a National Treasure statue of Shakyamuni Buddha. Blessed with abundant natural spring water, the temple gate is lined with approximately 20 soba restaurants. The aroma of freshly ground soba and the charm of the merchant street with its water wheels and souvenir shops make it feel like a miniature journey.

Tips

On weekends, queues at soba restaurants form after noon. Aiming for 11 AM entry is your best bet. After your visit, enjoy the specialty soba manju (sweet buns) while strolling.
