Pay Respects at Musashi Ichinomiya by Walking the Long Zelkova Approach
About this spot
The head shrine of approximately 280 Hikawa shrines throughout Japan, which is also the origin of the place name "Omiya." The zelkova-lined approach stretching about 2 km is said to be Japan's longest, with vermillion-painted towergates and dance halls standing out against the greenery. A leisurely walk along the approach offers a refreshing time befitting the start of a journey.
Tips
The approach is flat and easy to navigate with a stroller. Walking the entire 2 km can be taxing, so families with children are recommended to join from around the second torii gate near Omiya Station.
Best time to visit
Allow 40–60 minutes. Early morning is quiet and conducive to worship.
