Gaze up at the golden Buddhas with your family at Sanbutsudo Hall
About this spot
A temple at the heart of Nikko Mountain faith with over 1,200 years of history. The main hall's Sanbutsudo contains three golden Buddhas standing about 7.5 meters tall, and their magnificent presence inspires even children to exclaim. The temple also features the Shoyo-en Garden and a treasure house where you can experience Nikko's rich history.
Tips
Since it's in the same mountain grounds as Toshogu Shrine, visiting first makes for smooth sightseeing. You'll remove your shoes inside the hall, so wearing easily removable shoes makes it convenient for families with children.
Best time to visit
Allow 40-60 minutes. Early morning is quiet and recommended
