Play treasure hunter with your children finding the Yomeimon Gate, Three Wise Monkeys, and Sleeping Cat
About this spot
A World Heritage Shrine enshrining Tokugawa Ieyasu. The Yomeimon Gate is covered in carvings of such magnificent splendor it's said you could gaze upon it for a day without tiring, making it fun to search for famous carvings like the Three Wise Monkeys and the Sleeping Cat with your family. Climbing up to the Inner Shrine lets you experience the serene atmosphere among towering cedar trees.
Tips
The grounds have many stone steps and gravel paths, making strollers difficult, so a baby carrier is recommended. Since the ticket window gets crowded around midday, purchasing admission tickets in the morning is smoother.
Best time to visit
Allow 90-120 minutes. Midday on weekends is crowded
