Explore Castle Ruins and Enjoy Panoramic Views at a Mountain Shrine with Friendly Cats
About this spot
A shrine dedicated to the warrior Hira no Hidesuato (藤原秀郷), enshrined in the main citadel of Karasawa Yama Castle ruins. The approach lined with remnants of high stone walls retains the characteristic appearance of a mountain fortress, and it's also famous for the friendly cats that live within the grounds. On clear days, you can overlook the entire Kanto Plain, and the mountain-top rest house allows for a pleasant break.
Tips
From the summit parking area to the main shrine, there are stone steps and uphill paths, so a carrier is safer than a stroller. Remember to observe from a distance and not chase the cats—it's a matter of courtesy.
Best time to visit
Approximately 60 minutes / Morning hours are quieter and better for encountering the cats
