Next stop: Admire fine Mashiko-ware pieces at the museum on a hill with wide lawnsAbout this spot
A major Mashiko-ware shopping spot greeted by a giant tanuki pottery statue so tall you have to look up at it. It carries everything from affordable everyday tableware to pieces by individual artists, and with a restaurant and a pottery-painting experience on site, it's perfect for a stop that includes lunch. Picking out a small child-sized rice bowl as a trip memento is fun too.
Tips
Pottery is fragile, so once you've made your purchases, have them wrapped together and put them in an eco bag. For the pottery-painting experience, keep in mind that the finished piece is shipped to you later, which is good to plan around.
Best time to visit
Allow 1.5 hours. The restaurant tends to get crowded around lunchtime.
