Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art (益子陶芸美術館)

Flow of the course

About this spot

A museum standing on a hill within Togei Messe Mashiko, exhibiting fine works by ceramic artists connected to Mashiko, including Shoji Hamada. The grounds also feature Shoji Hamada's relocated former residence and a climbing kiln, and the wide lawns are a great spot for kids to run around freely. It's just right for viewing art while taking a stroll.

Tips

If your child is at an age where staying quiet indoors is difficult, it's a good option to focus mainly on the lawn and the climbing kiln outside. The grounds are easy to get around even with a stroller, and the view from the hilltop is lovely.

Best time to visit

Allow 1 hour. It's relatively relaxed in the afternoon.
