About this spot
A scenic 10-minute aerial ride to Tenjin-daira at 1,319 meters elevation on the mid-slopes of Mount Tanigawa, one of Japan's top 100 mountains. The gondola windows frame endless views of mountain faces and verdant valleys, while from Tenjin-daira you can take in both of Mount Tanigawa's twin peaks and the surrounding Joshu mountains. Known as a ski resort in winter and as a haven for alpine plants and autumn foliage from spring through fall, it is the flagship destination for Minakami tourism.
Tips
Aim for the morning when mountain vistas are clearest. Taking the lift from Tenjin-daira to Tenjin-toge offers a perfect frontal view of Mount Tanigawa's twin peaks. Even in summer, bring a light jacket as it can be chilly.
