About this spot

A roadside station that turns an entire rural village into a destination, centered on Sugawa-juku, a former post town on the old Mikuni Kaido road. More than 20 workshop studios, offering woodworking, pottery, soba-making and more, are scattered throughout, and you can wander leisurely through the countryside scenery. Direct sales of fruit such as apples and savory dumplings called oyaki are also popular, making it ideal for last-minute souvenir hunting to wrap up the trip.

Tips

For popular workshops offering soba-making or pottery, it's reassuring to book a reservation. Shops tend to close early, so it's best to finish your souvenir shopping by around 4pm.
