About this spot

A rare lava scenic spot, even by world standards, formed by lava that flowed and hardened during the great Edo-period eruption of Mt. Asama. A walking trail is laid out among the rugged, unusually shaped rocks, letting you stroll while gazing at Mt. Asama up close. The alpine plants blooming on the rock surfaces and the autumn foliage add seasonal charm, and the view from Asamayama Kannon-do (浅間山観音堂) at the center of the park is breathtaking.

Tips

The walking trail is paved but has ups and downs, so wear comfortable walking shoes. The Omotesando course takes about 40 minutes to loop, and there are restrooms and a rest area near the gift shop.

Best time to visit

Allow 60 to 90 minutes. It's relatively uncrowded in the morning.
