About this spot

A rare lava scenic spot in the world, created when lava flowed from Mount Asama's massive eruption in the Edo period solidified. Walking trails are laid out among the rugged rock formations, allowing you to stroll while viewing Mount Asama up close. The site's charm includes seasonal alpine flowers blooming on the rock surfaces and autumn foliage, and the view from Asama Kannon Hall in the center of the garden is spectacular.

Tips

The walking trails are paved but uneven, so wear comfortable walking shoes. The main route takes about 40 minutes for a full loop; restrooms and a rest area are available near the gift shop.

Best time to visit

Allow 60-90 minutes; relatively uncrowded in the morning
