A Five-Minute Aerial Walk to the Summit - Views of the Echigo Plain and Sea of Japan

About this spot

From the depths of Yahiko Shrine grounds, head to the base station and board a red gondola for a scenic five-minute aerial walk to the summit area of Mt. Yahiko. Mt. Yahiko stands at 634 meters, the same height as Tokyo Skytree. From the summit station, you can take in panoramic views of the Echigo Plain's rice paddies and the Sea of Japan. On clear days, you can even see the silhouette of Sado Island. The Goshintaō (divine mausoleum) enshrined at the summit venerates Amakazan-no-Mikoto and the consort deity, making it a sacred place for matchmaking and an ideal destination for couples.

Tips

The temperature is lower at the summit and winds are stronger, so bringing a light layer is advisable. The Goshintaō requires about 15 minutes of uphill walking from the summit station, so wear comfortable shoes. Check the operation status on the day, as the ropeway may close during strong winds.

Best time to visit

Plan for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Morning hours have clear air and stable views.
