A shrine nestled midway up Harubi Castle Ruins that honors Sengoku warlord Uesugi Kenshin. From the grounds reached by stone steps, you can overlook the Koryoku Plain and take in sweeping views of Joetsu. A statue of Kenshin stands nearby, making for a classic photo spot. Combined with exploring the castle ruins, you can feel the weight of history.
Tips
Stone steps continue from the parking area to the shrine, so a baby carrier is recommended for young children. Don't forget small coins for offerings. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
Best time to visit
30 to 45 minutes needed. Afternoons offer softer light and easier worship.
