Meet the Massive Tank That Merges with the Japan Sea and Crowds of Penguins
About this spot
A signature aquarium of Joetsu standing on the seaside of Naoetsu. Packed with exhibits where you can experience the ocean firsthand—from the massive tank where the water surface appears to merge with the Japan Sea to the underwater tunnel where fish swim overhead. Children will be delighted by the over 100 Magellanic penguins walking nearby. The dolphin performance with the Japan Sea as a backdrop is also impressive.
Tips
Features an elevator and is easy to navigate with a stroller; nursing rooms are also available. Dolphin performances fill up quickly, so arrive early to get a good seat. Opening hours vary by season, so check in advance for peace of mind.
Best time to visit
Approximately 3 hours needed. Less crowded right after opening and easier to explore.
