Next stop: Hang a plaque of promise and watch the sun set into the Sea of Japan togetherAbout this spot
A small unstaffed station on the Shin'etsu Main Line, beloved as the station closest to the sea in Japan. The Sea of Japan comes right up to the platform, and the scene of the tracks lined up with the horizon makes for a photo you can only get here. The location itself, sandwiched between cliff and sea, is picture-perfect, and a photo of the two of you against the blue sea will be a highlight of the trip. It's also known for how the sea turns golden at dusk, making it a classic spot for a drive date.
Tips
This is an active station, so watch carefully for approaching trains and never step onto the tracks. Parking space in front of the station is limited, so it's best suited for a short visit. Trains are relatively infrequent, so checking the schedule before you visit lets you capture the sea and a train together in one photo.
Best time to visit
Allow about 50 minutes. Timing your visit with train passing times lets you aim for a photo of the sea and a train together.
