About this spot
A beloved small unmanned station on the Shintetsu Main Line (信越本線), known as 'Japan's closest station to the sea.' The Sea of Japan comes right up to the platform's edge, and the sight of railroad tracks and the water's horizon side by side creates a photo opportunity found nowhere else. The very location, sandwiched between cliffs and sea, is picturesque, and photos of the two of you against the blue sea become a highlight of your trip. The station is also known for the sea turning golden at dusk—a must-visit spot for coastal drive dates.
Tips
As this is an active station, be extremely careful of approaching trains and never step onto the tracks. Parking space at the station is limited, making it suitable for brief visits. Train frequency is sparse, so check the timetable beforehand to capture photos of the sea and passing train together.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 50 minutes. Timing your visit with train departure times allows you to photograph the sea and train together.
