Appreciate Masterpieces of Art and Design, Overlook the Tateyama Mountain Range from the Rooftop Garden

About this spot

An art museum standing in one corner of Kan-sui Park with the theme of "connecting art and design." In addition to masterworks of 20th-century art by Picasso and Miró, the museum features an excellent collection of world posters and iconic chair designs—art-loving couples will lose track of time enjoying it. The rooftop garden is an open space with onomatopoeia-themed play equipment, offering one of Toyama's finest views overlooking Kan-sui Park and the Tateyama Mountain Range (立山連峰). The glass building itself is beautiful, and from anywhere inside, the waterside scenery is framed like a painting.

Tips

The collection exhibitions are just a few hundred yen, while special exhibitions have separate admission fees. The rooftop garden is free to visit, but may close seasonally or due to weather. Check the opening calendar in advance as there may be closures and exhibition changeover periods. The museum also has a restaurant; if it's crowded, switching to lunch around the station area can be smoother.

Best time to visit

Just under 2 hours. Right after opening, the galleries are quieter and easier to view.
