About this spot
The terminus of the Toyama Chihō Railway Tateyama Line and the gateway to the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route on the Toyama side, this mountain station is nestled in a valley. The station building houses a shop and dining facilities, with the cable car ticketing area and the presence of mountaineers creating an atmosphere befitting the entrance to an alpine resort. The station area is surrounded by the Jōganjiji River gorge, and green mountains are close at hand from the platform itself. Since the bus for Shōmyō Waterfall departs from here, it's the perfect place to stop first as your day's base.
Tips
There is ample free parking around the station, making it convenient for those with personal vehicles. You can reach the Shōmyō Waterfall area by the seasonal bus service or private car. Purchasing drinks and snacks at the shop will make your walk along the waterfall's footpath more comfortable. It's recommended to use the restroom here before heading out.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 45 minutes. Arriving around 9 a.m., before tour buses arrive, offers a more relaxed atmosphere.
