Board the 'Lady of the Sea' Kaio Maru and explore the ship with your family
About this spot
A park that preserves and exhibits the snow-white sailing ship Kaio Maru, the 'Lady of the Sea,' floating on the water. This former training ship that educated many young sailors at sea allows visitors to explore the wheelhouse, engine room, crew dining hall, and sleeping quarters—the entire ship is an adventure waiting to be discovered. The park also features a lawn plaza and viewing spots where you can see the majestic Tateyama Mountain Range across Toyama Bay on clear days. On days when the ship displays all its sails during the Sohankuten (full sail display), held several times a year, the sight is especially magnificent.
Tips
The park itself is free to enter; there is a fee only for boarding the Kaio Maru. The ship interior has many steep stairs and steps, so hold hands with small children, and baby carriers are more practical than strollers. Free parking is available. The gift shop and lawn plaza mean you should allow plenty of time.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes required. Morning light is beautiful and perfect for photography.
