Rest at a confectionery shop with vermillion-latticed façade, stroll around Yunomagawara, search for souvenirs, and enjoy lunch at nearby restaurants
About this spot
Located right next to the Old Soyu Bathhouse with a beautiful vermillion-latticed building facing Yunomagawara, this gathering spot brings together a confectionery shop, gallery, and souvenir shop—the heart of relaxation in Yamashiro Hot Spring. Traditional sweets enjoyed from the open veranda after a bath are incomparable, with offerings like red bean soup and dumplings. The gallery displays local crafts and goods, making it perfect for finding souvenirs such as Kutani ware miniatures. It also serves as a convenient starting point for wandering the surrounding area, including the traditional inn architecture encircling Yunomagawara and the approach to Yakuoin Onsen Temple (薬王院温泉寺).
Tips
Entry is free; charges apply only for food and purchases. The cost estimate is for sweets plus lunch. For lunch, it's recommended to dine at restaurants or soba shops in the surrounding hot spring town. The area around Yunomagawara has flat, easy-to-walk stone-paved streets, but be mindful of stepping stones and level changes.
Best time to visit
Approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. It's best to linger here straddling noon to enjoy both sweets and leisurely sightseeing.
