Cross the Suspension Bridge and Walk Through the Gorge to the Emerald-Green Sengatafuchi

A gorge carved by the Oshirakawa River, which originates at Kaiekomagatake, stunning for its contrast between white granite riverbed and emerald-green crystalline waters. The Oshirakawa was selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Waters for its pristine clarity. From the parking area, pay your respects at Takeyuu Komagatake Shrine, cross the suspension bridge, and walk for about 15 minutes to reach the mystical Sengatafuchi, where a small waterfall cascades into a deep pool. The sunlight through the trees shimmering on the water's surface is like mountain jewels. This is where you can trace the source of the water that nourishes the distillery's production and the traditional confections—the heart of this course.
Tips
The round-trip walking trail to Sengatafuchi is easy to navigate, but the mountain path beyond is a serious hiking route—do not proceed in light clothing. Wet rocks are slippery, so non-slip footwear is essential. The suspension bridge has a capacity limit, so cross considerately. Even in summer, the water is cold and the forest air is cool.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Afternoon sunlight filtering through the trees makes the water's color even more striking.
