A mountain castle built on the summit of Mount Kinkazan at an elevation of approximately 329 meters, associated with Saito Dosan and Oda Nobunaga. This historic site where Nobunaga named the region 'Gifu' and made it his base for unifying the realm features a keep standing majestically above the rocky mountain, presenting a picturesque silhouette when viewed from below. The top floor of the reconstructed keep serves as a 360-degree observation deck, offering a grand panorama where you can see the flow of the Nagara River, the Nobi Plain, and on clear days, even distant mountain ranges. The path from the mountain-top station to the keep winds through woodlands with a gentle climb, providing a taste of mountain climbing.

Tips

The walk from the mountain-top station to the keep takes about 10 minutes over stone steps and slopes. Small children should use a baby carrier or hold hands, and sturdy walking shoes are essential. The stairs inside the keep are steep, so yield to others respectfully. Admission tickets also allow access to the Gifu Castle Museum. The mountain top is cooler than the base, so bringing a light jacket is advisable.

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Morning offers clear views and fewer crowds.
