Viewing the Reconstruction of the Upper Chamber Depicted in "Before the Dawn" and the Daily Life of the Station
About this spot
A historical museum built on the site of a house that served as the assistant inn and merchant house during Magome Station. Inside, the upper chamber depicted in a scene from "Before the Dawn" has been reconstructed, allowing visitors to experience the formality of a station where nobles and court aristocrats were entertained. Through exhibits of a hearth room, period living tools, and station management documents, the lives of travelers passing through the Kiso Road and the daily workings of the station come vividly to life. When combined with the Fujimura Memorial Museum (藤村記念館), your appreciation of Magome's history deepens significantly.
Tips
Just a short walk from the Fujimura Memorial Museum, it's easy to visit both in succession. Due to the traditional wooden construction, there are steps inside the building, so children should watch their footing. Timing your lunch at a station tea house for soba afterward works perfectly.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes required. Visit before lunch and proceed directly to a meal.
