Ascend to the Summit by Lift and Enjoy the O-hachi Meguri Walk Around the Crater Rim

About this spot

A 580-meter-high volcano with a beautiful bowl-shaped form that has become the symbol of Izu Kogen. Since mountain vegetation must be protected, hiking is not permitted, and the specialty is a roughly 6-minute aerial stroll in a two-person lift for both ascent and descent. At the summit, you can enjoy the "O-hachi meguri," a complete circuit around the bowl-shaped crater rim, where on clear days you can take in a sweeping 360-degree panorama including Sagami Bay, the Izu Seven Islands, and even Mount Fuji. The crater also offers a unique archery experience activity that is sure to become a topic of conversation for the family.

Tips

Children can ride the lift with a guardian. The summit has almost no shade, so don't forget a hat and drink. The O-hachi meguri takes about 20-30 minutes and is not suitable for strollers, so a baby carrier is reassuring. On windy days, the lift may close, so check the operation status on the day before heading out.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes required. Early morning when the air is clearest and Mount Fuji is easiest to see.
