Pay respects at the head shrine of Sengen shrines nationwide and gaze at the spring water of Wakutama Pond
About this spot
The head shrine of approximately 1,300 Sengen shrines nationwide and a symbol of Fujinomiya, counted as a constituent asset of the World Heritage Mt. Fuji. The main hall, said to have been donated by Tokugawa Ieyasu, features a rare two-tiered structure called "Sengen-zukuri" architecture, and only here can you view Mt. Fuji beyond the vermillion-painted shrine buildings. Wakutama Pond within the shrine grounds, where the snowmelt of Mt. Fuji springs forth, is designated as a National Special Natural Monument, and its strikingly clear blue water is so beautiful that even children will gaze upon it in wonder. Known for its blessings of safe childbirth and family harmony, this is the perfect power spot to start your family outing.
Tips
The shrine grounds are flat and easy to navigate with a stroller, and there is parking available for visitors. Around 9 a.m., there are fewer people, making it smooth for commemorative photos at the gate. Near Wakutama Pond, there are places with low railings, so hold your child's hand when walking near the water. Don't forget to bring small coins for offerings and fortune-telling paper slips.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes required. Early morning offers clearer air and a higher chance of seeing Mt. Fuji beyond the shrine buildings.
