About this spot
Affectionately known locally as 'Osengenssan,' this is a collective term for shrines centered around Kamibu Shrine, Sengen Shrine, and Oitoshi-gososhino Shrine. The shrine buildings decorated with lacquer and polychrome carvings are truly impressive, with many designated as nationally important cultural properties. This is a shrine with deep ties to Ieyasu, where Takechiyo—the young Tokugawa Ieyasu who spent his childhood in Sunpu—is said to have come of age. The spacious grounds allow for a delightful time circulating through several buildings while comparing their carvings.
Tips
Admission is free. It's about a 15-minute walk from Sunpu Castle Park with flat terrain. The grounds have some gravel and stone steps, so choose an easy route for pushing a stroller. Checking proper prayer etiquette with your child beforehand makes the experience more enjoyable.

Approximately 1 hour. Morning hours have fewer worshippers, allowing for peaceful prayers
