A museum standing right in front of Sunpu Castle Park, themed on the history of Ieyasu and Sunpu. On the first floor, archaeological remains of a road and stone walls from the late Sengoku period discovered through excavation are preserved and displayed in situ, creating an impressive space where you can walk while looking down at the actual road. The exhibition rooms trace Sunpu's transformation from the Imagawa clan era through Ieyasu's retired shogun period using easy-to-understand materials and videos. Since this connects to the stories of Sunpu Castle and Sengen Shrine you explored in the morning, it's the perfect sequence to spark children's 'I see!' moments.
Tips
The first-floor archaeological site area is free to view, while the exhibition rooms charge admission. The museum is fully equipped with elevators and accommodates strollers. Have lunch at Gofukucho or around Shizuoka Station before entering the museum. Local specialties like Shizuoka oden are popular with children.
