Three Generations Together Offer Prayers for Prosperity and Good Fortune at a Shrine Enshrining Toyotomi Hideyoshi
About this spot
A shrine located in the Nino-no-maru (Second Citadel) of Osaka Castle, enshrining Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Hideyori, and Hidenaga. Known for blessings of prosperity and advancement owed to Hideyoshi's rise from peasant to ruler of all Japan, visitors are greeted by a dignified bronze statue of Hideyoshi before the torii gate. The shrine grounds are wrapped in a calm atmosphere, a step away from tourist crowds—ideal for three-generation worship together. Many visitors pray here for their grandchildren's school success and family career advancement, and talismans and prayer plaques inspired by Hideyoshi's iconic gourd crest are popular. The convenient location just before the Sakura Gate leading up to the Tenshu makes it easy to visit naturally on your way from the park to the castle.
Tips
Located within Osaka Castle Park, just south of the Sakura Gate leading up to the Tenshu; you can easily stop by on your stroll. Worship is free and takes about 20–30 minutes. The grounds are flat and safe for those with strollers or mobility concerns. Prayer stamps (goshuin) are available at the shrine office, so bring your stamp book if you're collecting them. Prepare small coins for offerings as well.
Best time to visit
Approximately 30 minutes. Recommended to stop by in the early afternoon before heading to the Tenshu Keep.
