About this spot
Opened in February 2022 after nearly 40 years of planning, this museum serves as Osaka's new art hub. Designed by architect Katsuhiko Endo, its striking jet-black cubic exterior houses a dramatic interior with a soaring atrium passage running through the dark box connecting the upper floors. Housing over 6,000 works including pieces by Modigliani, Dalí, and Magritte, as well as one of the world's most acclaimed Yuzo Saeki collections and modern Osaka-related art and design posters, the museum hosts successive blockbuster exhibitions. "SHIP'S CAT," a large cat sculpture by Kenji Yanobe near the entrance, is a popular photo spot. The well-stocked museum shop and café complement an afternoon that highlights a day immersed in art.
Tips
About a 5-minute walk from Watanabebashi Station on the Keihan Nakanoshima Line; about a 10-minute walk from Higobashi Station on the Osaka Metro Yotsubashi Line. Popular exhibitions often employ timed ticketing, making advance online purchase advisable. Since exhibitions are split between the 4th and 5th floors, confirming the floor first for efficient viewing is recommended. The neighboring National Museum of Art is just a short walk away, making back-to-back visits convenient.

Approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. Weekends tend to get crowded in the afternoon, so timed-ticket entry helps streamline the experience.
